The Heart of the Beats
Feature Film
Pre-Production

The Heart of the Beats is a narrative feature film about five women whose lives were shaped by the Beat era and who reunite decades later after the death of a shared friend.
Once young writers and artists on the margins of a male-dominated movement, they gather at a quiet coastal house to reflect on friendship, creative ambition, and the lives they ultimately lived.
As the weekend unfolds, old tensions surface alongside humor and tenderness, revealing the long afterlife of artistic longing and unresolved history.
Their conversations are shaped by what was published, what was abandoned, and what was never recognized, with one woman having achieved success while others slipped into obscurity.
Interwoven with their reunion is Tomeka, a younger journalism student researching women of the Beat era, whose presence quietly reframes questions of legacy, authorship, and erasure. Intimate and reflective, the film explores how women remember their work, their friendships, and themselves over time.
